In the year of 2006 Bishop Grant B. Williams, Jr., the Founder and Pastor of The Lord’s Church and Christian Center previously located at Stuart Lane in Clinton, MD announced his retirement.  Bishop Williams, led by the Holy Spirit elevated, then Elder Shirley A. Stewart, to the position of Senior Associate Minister in 2006 and Assistant Pastor in 2007 at The Lord’s Church and Christian Center.  The Lord’s Church and Christian Center was dissolved in July of 2007 and The Lord’s Church of Salvation and Praise (TLCOSP) was birthed by the Spirit of God as revealed to Assistant Pastor Stewart with the blessing and sanctioning of Bishop Williams.
TLCOSP moved to Temple Hills, MD where Pastor Brenda Purvis and her congregation were having worship services in a community center.  They graciously allowed TLCOSP to worship jointly with them, and we did so for approximately three (3) months.  Afterwards,  TLCOSP relocated to 4003 Buck Creek Road, Temple Hills, MD and held services inside of Assistant Pastor Stewart’s home until January 2008.        Assistant Pastor Stewart prayed for a location within the community where TLCOSP could hold services.  She was led to contact Samuel Chase Elementary School.  God opened the door and we began holding service in  Samuel Chase Elementary School at 5700 Fisher Road, Temple Hills, Maryland on January 13, 2008.  Assistant Pastor Stewart was elevated and installed as the first Pastor, of The Lord's Church of Salvation and Praise.  On 30 December 2008, The Lord’s Church of Salvation and Praise received their 501©3 Federal Tax Exempt Status.
While at Samuel Chase, TLCOSP was and continues to be active in the community and the school.  We are members of the PTA and support the school's fundraisers, Pastor has assisted in the classroom by helping young people to read and volunteering as a chaperone on field trips.  Other community events that TLCOSP sponsored was a community day with a moon bounce for the kids, hot dogs, popcorn and cotton candy, face painting and a gospel rapper; TLCOSP held Gospel Concerts, a play, Community Give-Away (e.g. clothes, appliances, housewares, etc.), Turkey Box Give-A-Way and many other activities.  We are actively developing a reading tutorial program named the “F.O.R.C.E.” FROM OUTSTANDING READERS COMES EXCELLENCE.              We continued to fast and pray for our own church home. Several properties looked promising but were not a good fit for us.  We believed that God would lead us to the right place and we would know that it was His leading.  One recipient of our Turkey Box Give A Way asked if we were still looking for a church home.  The answer was yes.  He told us about the property, we looked at it, we prayed about it, and we contacted the attorney who was the trustee for the property.           God gave Pastor Stewart-Tibbs (she married Norman Tibbs on 7 October 2011) the vision of the property's potential.  We prayed on one accord for the Lord's will to be done.  When God is in it, there is no limit!!  A realtor that Pastor had experience with was contacted, the realtor contacted the attorney, a contract was drawn up and an offer made.  The attorney submitted it to the estate’s agent,  it was signed and ratified by the estate’s representative and the deal was done.               During the renovations  we had the best Overseer in 1st Gentleman Norman Tibbs. He is a savvy businessman and knowledgeable in how things should be done in decency and in order.  The General Contractor was very professional and took pride in his work and this project.  The property had been vacant in excess of 20 years. The complete renovation from start to finish was accomplished in less than 90 days.           God is not through with us and we are so very grateful to Him and to this community.  We have been planted here to bless this community and meet the community's needs thereby showing forth the love of God!!  WE are the friendly church by the side of the road, where everybody is somebody and Jesus Christ is all!!
